Are you able to please take us through your professional journey that made you a successful
business owner today?
I only had one job before becoming a CEO — We worked for Merrill Lynch, leading a technology team. It was a really great opportunity, plus gave me a chance to develop the leadership skills. (As a good aside, I always encourage individuals to get a job before getting an entrepreneur. That way, you know what it is like to have a “good” boss vs . a “bad” manager — and hopefully it becomes easier to emulate those much better qualities).
After Merrill Lynch, we started NewsCred. That was an unbelievable ride, and we learned a lot as you go along simply by “doing” — till we eventually sold that business and spun out there Welcome !
Gartner recognised Welcome, for your fourth year, as a head in the industry in the 2021 CMP Miracle Quadrant. What has been the strategy behind achieving this kind of prestigious recognition?
We take a lot of pride in our leadership position — that’s a big part of it. We strive to be 1% better every day, knowing we have some stellar companies out there looking to chase us down.
Of course , it helps which our product is world-class. Not only is it grounded in core content functions across ideation, editorial planning, creative workflows, publishing, dimension and more, but we also provide deep campaign planning, resource management, and work administration solutions. Together, it’s an item strategy that has propelled all of us to the very top of the contingent and the #1 ranking within CMP use cases for 4 consecutive years.
It’s all a part of our mission: to unleash the potential of marketers. We want to help all kinds of marketing teams reimagine the way they plan campaigns, make content, and measure their particular value. So , we’re at all times humbled by Gartner’s identification. We believe it’s a testament to both our item capabilities of today and our own vision for tomorrow. But while it’s been an extraordinary journey for us so far, our mission is not yet complete!

- Set, talk about, & visualize the entire marketing and advertising plan
- Focus collaboration, manage resources, and obtain more done (together)
- Create compelling, top quality content and campaign possessions
- Publish happy to every channel, from one location
- Store resources to make it really easy to find and reuse content
- Leverage analytics and information to work smarter, faster, & better
What are the top challenges you see for the industry in general and Welcome this year?
We speak with thousands of entrepreneurs — of all kinds, in most industries, and across globe — and the common themes (challenges) we often hear are about visibility, speed, and measurement.
And the symptoms, we believe, can be boiled down to silos. Team silos, process silos, and tech silos.
- When everything is decentralized, it’s difficult to know what the plan is (or even, has got the plan changed? ), who is doing what, and exactly where things stand — we. e. visibility.
- When everything is decentralized, it’s harder to collaborate with the team members you rely on to get your campaigns and articles out the door — i. e. speed.
- When everything is decentralized, it’s (near) impossible to comprehend what’s working (both from an operational and efficiency standpoint) — i. e. measurement.
Most of us know (and feel) this reality. Being a marketer today is straight up hard. Business demands (e. g. more production, faster growth) are on the rise.
But if we’re likely to overcome these challenges plus meet these expectations, we need to reimagine how we (as marketing teams) work, and the tools we use to help us execute.
That’s why Pleasant exists.
